One Blog to Rule Them All

Alright, before you take that the wrong way, I’m referring to my own blog and combining my ideas on just this one, for now.  I think I got a little over-zealous with all of the options I had for things to blog about, and I initially thought it would be better to divide into two separately-themed blogs.  After reading through the great comments and advice from my last post, I can now see that it is probably better for me to keep everything on one blog and just use certain days for differently themed ideas.  If something works out well, then I could split it off to create another blog.  Before I go any further, I would like to thank all those who responded to my post; all of you have some great ideas and suggestions.  If you are a new to blogging, experiencing writer’s block, or enjoy new ideas, I would recommend reading through the comments from my post: I Want Your Opinions! Please!  Thanks to Betty, Sandy, Barbara, Jeffrey, and Chrys and also two of my non-blogger friends, Twyla and Shannon!

In the midst of all the advice given, I also learned something new that I had to look up.  I did not realize that the term “meme” had more than one meaning.  When I said Meme Mondays before, I was specifically referring to Internet memes, which Wikipedia defines as “an activity, concept, catchphrase or piece of media which spreads, often as mimicry, from person to person via the Internet.”  I was thinking of using some of those memes and making a few remarks about them, and I found out Barbara does something similar in posts she calls I Saw It on Facebook.  The other meaning of “meme” is “an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture” (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/meme).  In the world of blogging, it seems that memes are repeatable posting ideas that are shared amongst multiple blogs; I was even told about some memes that occur on Mondays.  In fact, I’ve seen recurring ideas designated for each day of the week.

Here's an example of an Internet Meme

There are so many interesting ideas, that I’m not sure where to start!  So, probably for most of the summer, I will be testing some of these ideas out and see which ones fit well for me.  I hope to post once a week and maybe throw in an extra post here and there.  Since I’m trying out different things, I won’t be posting on the same day each week, but I hope to eventually find a pattern that works well.  Also, I will still be writing my regular life lessons and scripture-based posts at least once during the month; with all the changes and additions, I still want to stick to my original intent in starting this blog.  I hope everyone enjoys as I continue into a new phase of my journey in writing and have a safe and pleasant Memorial Day weekend!

  2. Glad I could help out with your plans for your blog :) I do agree one blog is easier to manage like Alex said. There are lots of memes out there. I know I've participated in some, they are kind of fun because some expose you to new groups of blogs you might not have found before :)

Looking forward to reading whatever you share here :)

  3. Hi Liz! I think keeping only one blog will give you an opportunity to figure out what you want to blog about. My blog is called a "lifestyle" blog. I mostly blog about my personal life and topics that mean the most to me. When I first started out I did a lot of meme's and it helped me find my blogging voice. Then as time went along I just started blogging my feelings and somehow that is where I ended. To make sure that I blog every single week I have some things I do on a weekly basis: The Simple Woman's Daybook on Monday's, sometimes I do List It Tuesday, I just started with Wednesday Hodgepodge, on Thursday's I like to post a picture of the past and write about the memories (Throwback Thursday). On Friday's I do my own thing with Dear Friday letters that kind of sum up my week. Rarely do I post on weekends. And anytime I can not post on any day I want. That is the beauty of blogging. Good luck with your blog!

    1. Thanks Paula! Yes, it is great that there are so many meme options available to help me post weekly. Even if I do venture into my own ideas, I can still have memes to fall back on during those writer's block moments. For now, I'm excited to try some out :)

  4. I think experimenting a little for a while is a good idea! You can see what the folks who are stopping by seem interested in. You can get a feel for what you enjoy the most. To me, blogging should always seem like fun time, not work.

I went back and read the other excellent advice you received. Bloggers really can be so friendly and helpful!

Oh, and thanks for the shout out!

    1. I appreciate the advice that people gave and I felt like you all deserved acknowledgement :) You're right, blogging is meant to be fun. I work full-time in a stressful environment and writing is not only my hobby, but also a great way to unwind.
